WATKINS GLEN, NY – Watkins Glen Int’l will host a new autonomous road racing event – Masters & HSR Race Weekend, hosted by Masters Historic Racing July 9-11.

The event will be titled by Masters Historic Formula One USA, featuring 3-liter Formula 1 era cars from 1966 to 1985; Masters Endurance Legends USA for prototypes and GT endurance cars from 1982 to 2016; and the new Masters Formula Atlantic Plus series for Formula Atlantic, Formula Super Vee and F2 cars from 1969 to 1986.

“While disappointing that we couldn’t host the Finger Lakes Wine Festival again this year, we couldn’t be happier to add this weekend of road racing to the summer calendar as residents and visitors alike take advantage of the Finger Lakes region, ”said WGI Chair Michael Printup. “Masters have been looking to present themselves here for almost 20 years and we are delighted to welcome them.”

HSR Group 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 categories will add to the racing action. Group 5 will compete in its own racing group and will feature classic full-caliber sports cars and sedans, including Porsche 911s, V8 Mustangs and Corvettes from one of the golden eras of road racing – from 1967 thru 1975. Group 7 will feature athletic racers from the 1960s and 1970s including GT40, Lola T70 and more. Group 8 will be the Historic Car Group and Group 9 will represent IMSA Historic Cars from the 1970s as well as TA and SCCA cars from the same period. The final 10 group will be more modern machines that don’t fit into the Masters Endurance Legends group of the HSR host.

“We are thrilled to finally have the chance to bring Masters to race at Watkins Glen International this year,” said Masters President and Founder Ron Maydon. “Watkins Glen has a definite synergy with our type of cars, which means we’ve been trying to find suitable race dates there for a long time. Personally, this is also a circuit that was on my own bucket list before I hung up my running shoes! Ride in July. ”
