Platinum Jubilee – Your roundup of Aberdeenshire events

Throughout the North East over the bank holiday weekend, events are held to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Here’s our roundup of events happening in Aberdeenshire.

Thursday, June 2 – Lighting of the Jubilee beacon 9:45 p.m.

Sunday, June 5, 12 noon – 5 p.m. Turriff celebrates Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a street party full of live music, entertainment, afternoon tea packages, plenty of stalls and more.

Enjoy afternoon tea with a hot drink/juice in one of the large marquees

Available for £10 for adults or £5 for ages 12 and under.

Each box will contain a Platinum Jubilee keepsake.

Jubilee beacon on Bennachie – Thursday 2nd June.

Ballroom dancing at City Hall – Friday, June 3.

Inverurie Raft race from Kemnay at 1 p.m. – Saturday June 4th.

Mens Shed Open Day – Saturday 4th June.

Dancing Through the Decades (Neil Mellis) at City Hall – Saturday, June 4.

Family Street Party – Sunday, June 5 at Market Place.


Ellon Legion is hosting various events throughout the weekend to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Between 2 and 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, there will be a tea dance with Ythan Fiddlers.

Then on Saturday, darts will kick off at 1pm, followed by an indoor street party on Sunday.

Admission to the Tea Dance and Street Party is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. To reserve your place at any of these events, please call 01358 720512.


Banff and Macduff – Thursday, June 2, 1:45 p.m. Macduff Harbor and 2 p.m. Plainstones, Banff announcement by town crier; 9:45 p.m. – beacons in both cities.

Cornhill and District, 4-7pm – Picnic in the hall – family event with – live music, beacon, games.

On Friday, June 3, local Banff and Macduff brownies and members of other uniformed organizations will be

visit retirement homes to distribute the birthday cake.

Saturday, June 4, Banff – Play in the Park, 2-4 p.m., Rugby Ground, Duff House – an afternoon of fun, games, magic and music.

Saturday June 4, 12pm-4pm – Duff House Grounds – Bring a Picnic to a Picnic with bagpipes, marching bands, games, stalls,

Aden National Park – Mintlaw

Friday 3 June, 11am Celebration of the Queen’s Jubilee with a picnic in the park.

Come celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with a picnic at the Mansion House.

There will be entertainment for children and food stalls in the courtyard. Bring a picnic blanket and enjoy the entertainment.


Saturday June 4, James Tennant Playing Fields 11am-5pm – fun day with bouncy castles, bouncy slide, bungee run, obstacle course, soft play for toddlers, school run kids races, boules, croquet, design of a crown to wear in the parade, ice cream van, barbecue, teas, coffees and homemade pastries as well as a raffle.

Boards of Jubilee themed photo opportunities, model balloons and face paintings, and in the pavilion a fantastic selection of Royal Coronation and Jubilee themed memorabilia.

All children are encouraged to make their own wreath in the style they like and participate in our wreath parade around the park led by a piper.

Monquhitter SWI organizes teas and coffees accompanied by delicious homemade pastries.

Entier offers an appetizing barbecue and there will be a children’s confectionery shop.

Sunday, June 5, 12:30-7 p.m. – Rothienorman and area Community Queens Platinum Jubilee Street Party,

A day of live music, hill climbs, children’s entertainment, Rothie Royal pudding contest, Rothienorman through the ages, BYOB and picnic.

All hospitality and dressing up from the surrounding community is optional.


Sunday, June 5 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. three screenings and takeaway options for the Queen’s Jubilee Celebration by Udny Community Trust and Cafe48.


Queen’s Jubilee Fun Day at Newmachar Scout Hall on Friday 3rd June 10am-1.30pm at Scout Hall


Kintore Platinum Jubilee Street Party – Saturday, June 4 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All entertainment and activities start at 11am at Forest Road – The Square and the car park with the road closed from 7am to 7pm.

The party takes place in the scout hall and its surroundings where games and activities for children will take place organized by the scouts and guides.

Monetary and other donations were greatly appreciated that day, with proceeds going to local food banks.

Local businesses in the area, namely The Square, Dossett’s and Chalmers Mackay Music School, Moars Furniture Store, are supported by the Rotary Club and Kintore CC along with representatives from the Kintore Summer Festival to present this event marking the platinum jubilee of Queens


Gartly’s Grand Jubilee Picnic takes place on Friday, June 3 from 2-6 p.m.

Bring a picnic and some to share with friends and neighbors.

A magic show takes place at 3:30 p.m. with balloon modeling and many other fun activities, including a duck race.


THE Insch community pulls out all the stops with a busy weekend to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Friends of Insch Hospital have taken the initiative to plan the celebrations and the highlight of the weekend will be the return of the Strawberry Fair to the hospital grounds on Sunday June 5th.

Events run from Thursday, June 2 and beginning at 7:30 p.m., 1st Insch Scouts hold a bonfire in Glebe Field before the lighthouse is lit at 9:30 p.m.

On Fridays throughout the day, the PTA organizes children’s discos under a specially erected marquee.

On the same evening, the Bennachie Leisure Center organizes foam parties for teenagers and tickets must be purchased in advance.

Saturday events are an afternoon concert and ceilidh dance under the Jubilee marquee.

Sunday starts at the golf course where there is a men’s open.

The service at Insch Parish Church at 10:30 a.m. will include guests from ATC1298 Squadron, friends of the hospital and the Insch community before the fair at 1 p.m.


The Buchanhaven Harbor SCIO charity is hosting two events during the Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend.

On Thursday, June 2, the Beacon lights up at 9:45 p.m.

On the same day, the Street Party and Vintage teas take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.


Thursday, June 2 at 9 p.m. at Whin Road is an appointment for the lighting of the local beacon.

Friday 3rd June, 11am to 4pm, events in town include a bouncy castle, magician balloons, face painting stalls including the Meldrum fish bar stall until 4pm, the Legion kitchen doing a basket dinner from 5 p.m., followed by an evening with Freeway from 8 p.m.

On Sunday, June 5 at the Legion at 2 p.m. there is a concert featuring the Garioch Blend with Bill Gray and Eddie Rose.


Friday June 3 – The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations include a family ceilidh at Beaton Hall with the band Iron Broo Ceilidh

Bring your bottle and small bites, doors open at 7:30 p.m., group starts at 8 p.m.

Sunday June 5 – Bring a Picnic to a Party – At noon a piper will leave the store car park and walk to the cricket ground to be greeted by Lady Aberdeen and Peter Thorp, the chairman of the community council.

There will be side stalls, competitions including tug of war, home baked goods and games.


Saturday June 4 – historic village hike at 2 p.m. and cake competition at 2 p.m. with registration at 1 p.m.

Afternoon tea at the church from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.


The events take place on Sunday June 5 – fun for all starts at 11am with a parade down the main street with local bands and bagpipes.

12:00 p.m. opening of the offices at Market Park.

12:30 Football marnoch beat the goalkeeper.

1:30 p.m. Performance by the Patricia Ann dance studio.

2.30 p.m. Reading of the Doric Book.

BBQ bring your own picnic area, bouncy castle fun stalls.


Friday, June 3 – 2:00 p.m. – visit in a vintage vehicle from the school, from the village to the legion.

At 2:30 p.m. 100 years of service to the legion.

Green plaque at 2:45 p.m. at the Market Stance.

3:15 p.m. Tree planting in the community park.

Saturday, June 4 – Ritchie Hall and Pleasure Park

donkey rides; animal show at 11:15 a.m.; bouncy castle, disguised evening at noon; campfire songs 12:30 p.m.; races 1:30 p.m.; wheelbarrow racing games and competitions at 2 p.m.; ice cream parlor from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; raffle at 3:30 p.m.

Pie and Pint takes place at local pubs from 4-5pm.

Dance with Stewart Whyte 7 p.m. at Legion


At Huntly there are events in the square from 8.30pm on Thursday 2nd June, culminating in the lighting of a beacon at Huntly Castle from 9.30pm.

On Saturday June 4, the Farmer’s Market will continue into the afternoon, there will be fiddle music, Highland dancing and a craft fair at the Gordon Arms Hotel.


A beacon will be lit on Tap o’ Noth at 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 2.

There is a big family picnic on Sunday.


Grand Jubilee Luncheon on Saturday, June 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Forglen Hall.

Community BBQ and bring your own burgers with salad, cakes and drinks provided.

The Bognie Bash on Friday, June 3 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m., with a disco from 8:30 p.m. and a buffet from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Meikle wart

At noon on Saturday January 4, the Wartle Community Association will plant a tree in the play park to commemorate the Queen’s Jubilee.

Locals are encouraged to bring their own picnic and youngsters can enjoy a queen cake and scavenger hunt.
