Fasten your seatbelt for the August 14 return of the annual Mentor cruise – News-Herald
The annual Mentor Cruise-In event will return to the Mentor Civic Center complex, 8500 Civic Center Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 14.
Cruise-In attendees will be able to see a wide variety of classic cars and trucks and live shows, and choose from an assortment of food trucks. The annual event typically attracts over 800 vehicles and 2,500 spectators.
“Cruise-In is in its 19th year and has become a must-see event in Mentor’s Town,” said Nick Standering, director of the Wildwood Cultural Center. “Held on the second Saturday in August, Cruise-In draws cruisers to Pennsylvania. “
Entry and parking will be free. No alcohol, dog or bicycle will be allowed during the event.
Car owners interested in showing their classic vehicles are not required to register in advance. Car registration begins on the day of the event at 8:00 a.m., no vehicle is allowed on site before this date.
The first 250 vintage car owners to register will receive a gift bag and dashboard plate as well as a free ticket for door prizes.
Fans of modern vehicles won’t be disappointed either, Standering said.
“Over the years, we’ve changed the format from allowing pre-1990 cars to open every year,” he said. “For example, you can see a 2021 Camaro parked next to a 1969 Camaro, and people like to see both classic and modern muscle cars.”
Standering said the event will also feature local bands showcasing classic tunes to accompany the theme.
“In addition to the endless vintage cars, we have free entertainment at the Mentor Amphitheater. The PopTarts (tribute to the girl group of the 60s) will perform from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and the Geeze Cats (tribute to the 50s and 60s) will take the stage from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. WIXY1260 online will do a live remote control from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to close the Cruise-In. There will be plenty of food vendors to satisfy all appetites.
