Burnham and Highbridge Jubilee celebrations continue today
A series of varied events are due to be held in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge today to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Both towns hold entertainment, street parties, a parade, a classic car show, music performances, beacon lighting and a showcase trail to mark the celebration.
Here is the latest list of events scheduled in the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area:
Saturday June 4
Burnham Special Exhibition of Jubilee vintage vehicles will feature vehicles from across the Queen’s reign in the city center from 10am-4pm today. Organized by the Burnham Chamber of Trade and the Bridgwater Classic and Vintage Club, this unique event will showcase dozens of wonderful classic vehicles in Burnham High Street and Victoria Street. Visitors and residents will be encouraged to view the vehicles and support local shops and restaurants. There will also be a special performance by the Rock Choir just after 1pm in Burnham High Street, near Lloyds Bank. The Mayor will choose the winning vehicle. Learn more here.
A Exhibition of royal memorabilia will be held by Burnham-On-Sea Heritage Group in the Town Council Chambers in Jaycroft Road from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a special flower arrangement, as well as an exhibition of coins, stamps, photos of the Queen’s visit to Highbridge Radio Station, an exhibition of historical finds and also unusual royal memorabilia.
A Jubilee Sailing Race will take place at Burnham-On-Sea around 9am with the boats and yachts decked out in red, white and blue. View from the waterfront.
A “tea and friendship” afternoon is scheduled at St Andrew’s Church in Burnham-On-Sea to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Saturday June 4 from 2-4pm. Read more
“A Good Royal Jubilee Jam” will take place at the Morland Community Hub in Highbridge. This family event will take place from 12pm to 5pm with street art, a DJ, Punch and Judy, a magician and a snack for the children. Learn more here.
A Jubilee sports day will take place with local sports and recreation clubs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a coaches vs. U16 football match at 2 p.m. at the Highbridge Recreation Ground next to Southwell House.
A Famous Strawberry Tea will take place from 3-5 p.m. at Hope Baptist Church in Church St, Highbridge.
“A good Royal Rave Up” will feature live outdoor music from seven decades between 5pm and 10pm at Market Street and Southwell House, Highbridge.
A “Jubilee Celebration at Dunstan House” will run from 3-5pm with face painting, balloon modeling and pick n mix, as well as live music in the evening.
from Burnham ‘Jubilee Trade Trail’ continues in 32 downtown shops and businesses until June 12 hosted by the Burnham Chamber of Trade with cash prizes up for grabs.
Sunday June 5
“Jubilee Party in the Park” will take place in Burnham’s Manor Gardens from 12.15pm to 5.15pm with live music, stalls and refreshments. With Keith O’Connell, Ollie and Mel, The Boneyard Blues Band, Little Secrets and Daft Folk. FREE ENTRANCE.
‘Sunday Jubilee craft market with activities for the whole family at Southwell Gardens in Highbridge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Burnham and Highbridge Town Strip will play on the Esplanade on Sunday, June 5 at 2 p.m. (near the Bayview Cafe).
“A Jubilee Tea” will take place from 4pm to 6pm for people aged 70 and over at Highbridge Community Hall in Market St, Highbridge. Call 01278 788134 to reserve your free seat.
The ‘Jubilee Trade Trail’ continues through shops in Burnham-On-Sea town center with a chance to win cash prizes by finding royal-themed clues in shop windows.
